Barbiecore, revisited

Barbiecore, revisited

A love letter to living in color

Let’s be honest. Barbie never really left. But when the movie hit in 2023, she returned loud, proud, and wrapped in high-gloss pink. Two years later, Barbiecore still feels fresh, relevant, and joyful.

At Kate Thacker Home, we always make room for playful design. This moodboard originally launched during peak Barbie hype, and it’s still one of our most popular pins. Clearly, many of us are drawn to bold, confident color palettes.

This look isn’t about simply tossing in pink accents. Barbiecore is defined by intentional choices, sophisticated finishes, and vibrant energy. It’s bold, but thoughtful. Modern, yet nostalgic. And it’s undeniably fun.

How we built the look

We started with a velvet lip-shaped sofa as our anchor piece. The playful shape sets a confident tone.

A glossy pink desk provides immediate visual interest, balanced by the desk’s elegant gold base. Sculptural lighting and a muted abstract rug add subtle depth, while maintaining visual harmony.

We intentionally mixed textures: acrylic, velvet, brass, and natural wood. These materials play off each other effortlessly, creating a cohesive yet dynamic feel. The palette remains tightly edited, yet filled with personality.

Why Barbiecore still works

Good design doesn’t have an expiration date. Recently, Pinterest trends have shown Barbiecore popping up again—especially around Mother’s Day gifting. And why not? It’s bold, uplifting, and refreshingly playful.

Whether styling a chic home office or simply adding one standout piece, this look proves vibrant design has lasting appeal.
