As an interior designer in Dallas, TX, one of my favorite things is working with clients who embrace bold choices. And this project? It was an absolute dream. Designed for a creative mother-daughter duo, The Joy of Color is exactly that—a joyful, vibrant home brimming with personality, art, and the kind of layered style that never takes itself too seriously.
This family had a clear vision: more color, more pattern, and more spaces that could grow and evolve with them. The mom, an artist and founder of Color Kind Studio, even designed her own wallpaper line—so you can imagine how fun it was to collaborate with someone who loves color as much as I do.
Let’s take a tour.
A Colorful, Clever Playroom Refresh
Before….

After…

The heart of the home is often where the mess happens—in the best way. For the playroom, we leaned into that energy, creating a bright and functional space full of inspiration.
We added custom storage to make hidden room for books, legos, art supplies, and whatever creative phase comes next. A playful pegboard wall lets art supplies live out in the open (and encourages spontaneous creativity along with flexible storage). A new hangout nook with cozy seating makes this more than just a “kid space”—it’s a spot that will grow with her.
The best part? It doesn’t feel like an afterthought. It’s cheerful, intentional, and designed to keep up with an imaginative mind.
A Bathroom with Layers of Pattern and Personality

Step just outside the playroom, and you’ll find a small bathroom with a big personality. We layered wallpapers from Hygge & West with vibrant, patterned tile along with a mint-y green vanity paint color—complete with cobalt blue accents that tie in beautifully with the nearby play space. The result? The most perfect bathroom that makes a major impact.

A Timeless Yet Modern Girls’ Bedroom
For the daughter’s bedroom, we paired a classic Pierre Frey fabric for the custom window treatments with a graphic black and white accent blanket and vibrant Moroccan rug that the client already had. It’s a blend of timeless and modern that feels fresh and grown-up—but still fun enough to put your favorite Barbie horse on your dresser. This room (for sure) passes the sleepover test!
This space is a perfect example of how to use pattern in a way that feels collected, not chaotic. Each element has breathing room, and yet the room is clean, modern and timeless.

An Artistic Home Office That Works Hard

Designing a home office for an artist meant thinking beyond just a desk and a chair. We lined the walls with homasote boards, then painted them “Saturday on Sunday” by Backdrop—a warm, optimistic tone that makes the whole room feel energized.
I love the way the new wall color provides the perfect fresh backdrop for anything pinned there. Whether it’s inspiration, sketches, or to-do lists, everything has a home. We finished off the room with a new Stella Rug, and Katie Kime’s Dallas toile fabric made in custom roman shades. Even though this is an office, it’s casual, light and the perfect place to get things done.
A Powder Bath With Major Personality
This is what the bathroom started looking like. It needed to reflect who my clients were and give a you a punch of color when you walked in. First things first, remove…everything!

Now, check out the after…

If there was one space where we went all in, it’s the powder bath. This tiny room is a jewel box—a perfect place to make a statement.
The homeowner designed the wallpaper herself (I told you she was creative!), and we paired it with a striking cobalt blue wall hung sink from Watermark Fixtures. I think it’s the perfect pairing with the wallpaper. A sculptural light fixture from Future Perfect and a leather-and-metal towel holder by New Made LA round out the look. It’s unexpected, artistic, and totally unforgettable – just what a Powder Bath should be.

Dining Room Details: Texture + Function

Sometimes all a room needs is a single new piece to bring everything together. In the dining room, that piece was a velvet console from Anthropologie. It adds a rich hit of texture, grounds the room with deeper color, and gives the family a little extra storage (because let’s be honest, there’s no such thing as too much).
Kitchen Glow-Up: Small Updates, Big Impact

The kitchen didn’t need a full renovation—just a little love. We gave the cabinets a fresh coat of paint, swapped the hardware, and added updated light fixtures. Those subtle upgrades made the space feel polished and refreshed without the need for a full gut job.
A Project That Said “Yes” to Color at Every Turn
Throughout the entire home, the theme was clear: bold color, confident pattern, and spaces that support creativity at every turn. From cobalt sinks and velvet furniture to black-and-white graphics and painterly pastels, we didn’t shy away from anything that sparked joy.
What made this project so special wasn’t just the incredible art or the custom elements—it was the clients themselves. When the answer to every bold idea is a wholehearted “yes,” magic happens. And this home is proof of that.
