The Art of the Island: Designing the Heart of the Kitchen

The kitchen island has become the new hearth of the home. It’s where dinner gets prepped, coffee gets poured, and spontaneous conversations turn into memories. Our clients love them for their versatility, but also for the way they anchor a space. A well-designed island is functional, sculptural, and often the most admired piece in the room.

These six kitchens each offer a unique take on this modern essential.

Classic contrast with a crisp finish
This kitchen is all about balance. White cabinetry and a dark island set the tone, while the open lines and natural light keep things feeling fresh. Oversized pendant lighting adds geometry without overpowering, and the cane stools bring in just the right amount of softness.

#2

02 Montclair

A marble moment, fully realized
Drama comes through in the stone. The island and backsplash wrap in richly veined marble, paired with champagne brass details and a high-contrast range. Every material here is doing its job, but none are fighting for attention. The result is calm and luxurious.

Relaxed style with purpose
This island feels clean but not clinical. A soft gray base warms up the white cabinetry, and those woven leather stools bring in earthy texture. Layered styling and thoughtful greenery make the entire space feel collected and lived-in.

#4

04 Feelslike Hometome

Deep green and a strong foundation
This color story is bold but comforting. The cabinetry wraps around the room in deep forest green, grounded by herringbone wood flooring and warmed with subtle brass hardware. The island becomes a centerpiece without needing to shout. And yes, the dog completes the shot.

#5

1113 N Canterbury

Timeless lines with a tailored finish
This is a kitchen that knows exactly what it’s doing. Crisp white cabinetry, a symmetrical layout, and a navy island with furniture legs all work together to create a space that feels tailored but never stiff. The polished nickel faucet is a quiet luxury moment.

#6

06 Brothersbungalow

Modern palette, grounded presence
There’s a confidence in this design that doesn’t rely on bold color. The black faucet and hardware feel sharp against soft green cabinetry, while natural wood stools and warm floors bring in balance. The island feels substantial, but never overwhelming.
